Swastika Opferstein in the Harz Mountains

Most of my readers will be familiar with the sacred German feast of Walpurgisnacht, in honour of the Goddess Walburga (30th April) but in the Harz mountains where She was worshipped an incredible granite stone, engraved with an ancient Swastika was discovered in 1901 at the Hexentanzplatz (place of the witches' dance) above the Bode gorge in Thale during the building of the Walpurgishalle Museum. The stone is apparently currently housed in the museum. Heathens also continued to worship the old Gods at the nearby Brocken. It is believed that this sacred stone was used for the purpose of sacrifice to the Gods and that the carving on the stone dates back to the Bronze Age.
